Year 5 to feature on Island FM

As part of Island FM’s countdown to Christmas, Year 5 have recorded their Christmas carol which will be heard on the radio.

We have recorded a song called ‘O Holy Night’ which will also feature in our Christmas Service.

Listen out for when Island FM start playing their Christmas Carols sung by Guernsey’s school children as Year 5 will be representing St Martin’s.

A huge thanks to Mrs Dempster for teaching this song to the children.

WW1 Trench Visit

We just wanted to say a massive thanks to those of you who were able to accompany us on our trips today.

The children gained a valuable insight into what it would have been like for soldiers in WW1, living and fighting in trenches.

We have since looked at letters from soldiers written from the trenches.

Here are a few snaps of the day:

The trench will be open to the public this Saturday between 10am and 4pm on Home Farm Field – behind the rear carpark at Saumarez Park, if you are interested in visit yourselves, we found it incredibly fascinating.

A special mention to the Guernsey Military History Company who put on the activities for us and truly brought History to life.

Year 5 Visit to WW1 Trench

Just a reminder that our visit to the WW1 trench is taking place this Thursday 16th November and Mrs Shillito’s and Mrs De Sousa’s Classes are in desperate need of volunteers to come along with us.

If you have any time available on Thursday, even if it is to support another class on their trip then we will be most grateful.

Mrs Shillito’s Class will leave at 9am

Mrs De Sousa’s Class will leave at 10.30am

Mrs Greer’s Class will leave at 1pm

As you can see we are expecting the conditions to be muddy, so we ask that the children come into school wearing clothing that will be warm, with a coat that is waterproof.  It would also be useful if the children could bring wellies/old shoes to change into before departing for our trip.
