Weekly Update 03/10/17

Literacy – This week we will be exploring settings as part of our work on ‘How to Train Your Dragon’.  These setting will focus on living on an island, which we know a lot about already.  This week’s spelling focus will be to continue to practise plural endings.

Numeracy – This week we have been enjoying playing the Rainbow Maths games that the children created as their homework task. They have come up with so many creative ways in which to practise their targets and we thank you for your support. We will keep these games in school as the children have enjoyed sharing them. Over the next week we will continue to look at recapping on mental and formal written methods for addition and subtraction, and then applying these strategies to word problems.

Jersey Trip Deadline – May we remind you that the deadline for registering your child and paying the deposit for the trip is the October half term. Should you need another copy of the letter then click below.

Literacy Homework 29.09.17

Literacy Homework

For your homework this week, please can you complete your book reviews for the display in the year 5 corridor. You have started these in class for either your favourite fiction or non-fiction book. You only need to complete one.

Also, we would like you to come up with an additional extra that you can add to your review. This might be a character web of your favourite character, like the ones you produced for Hiccup and Gobber the Belch; a video of you reading your favourite part of the book and explaining why you liked it; a re-enactment; a glossary of interesting words (particularly for non-fiction), etc. You might want to use iMovie, PicCollage, Comic Life, etc. Be creative!

This homework is due in next Friday, 6th October. If you have it on a device from home, please upload it to google drive with your name on and in your class folder.

Numeracy Homework 22/09/17

Rainbow Maths Homework

For the launch of Rainbow maths targets, we would like you to come up with a game that you could play to test the first of your personal targets. It could be a paired game, team game or individual target practice. You could use dice, number cards, question cards, a board… the list is endless. You could even create your own ‘Showdown’ cards. Be imaginative! The more exciting the game, the more you will practise and the better you will be at your target.

Please bring your games to school by Wednesday 27th September.

Weekly Update 19/09/17

Another week has flown by!

Literacy

We will be writing poetry over the next couple of weeks based on our class text and word level focus of nouns.

Numeracy

We have continued exploring place value and will be looking at multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We will also be exploring 2D shapes.

Acceptable Use Policy

All children have been given two copies of the ICT Acceptable Use Policy. This has a list of rules that we would like the children to adhere to when carrying out any activity to do with ICT in school and for anything school-related. Please can you and your child both sign and return one copy to the school. The other copy can be kept at home for your reference. We have also attached a copy below.
